ORGANIC EARTHBOX GARDEN KIT

We love gardening in our EarthBoxes so much, we’ve devoted a whole page to them! The Complete Organic EarthBox Kit contains all you will need for a bountiful harvest.

The Organic Kit comes with easy planting instructions and a set of excellent casters, so the boxes can be easily moved toward more sun or less sun, or rolled inside on frosty nights. Also included are the Dolomite Lime (calcium) which all plants need and a package of Certified Organic Plant Food, sufficient for the entire season. The aeration screen, water tube and 3 plastic mulch covers are also part of the Kit.

The EarthBox measures 29” L x 13.5” W x 11 H. and accommodates 2 cubic feet of potting mix – or exactly 3 bags of our Black Gold Waterhold Potting Soil. The water reservoir holds 3 gallons of water, which is “topped off” regularly through the water tube.

As the water “wicks up” through the soil, the fertilizer gradually releases from the top down, into the area around the plant roots. With this patented, award-winning system, you will never again fertilize after the initial planting, and there are virtually no weeds because the mulch cover prevents them! The cover also holds in moisture and soil warmth and prevents rain from washing away the fertilizer. And as long as the water reservoir is kept full, you can never over water or under water, eliminating that guesswork entirely.

When it’s time for your next crop, simply remove the mulch cover, old plants, and the top 1/3 of the original soil and any old root strands, and add one more 16 qt. bag of the Black Gold WaterHold Potting Soil. You will need to use another application of Dolomite Lime and Fertilizer, but these and a new mulch cover come in the Organic Replant Kit, which we also sell. It’s so easy to go from season to season in an EarthBox!

Once you begin gardening in the EarthBox, you will definitely want more of them. They’re tidy, attractive, practically fool-proof and resource-saving. It all starts with great soil, and Black Gold Waterhold Potting Soil is our choice. OMRI-Listed and blended with coconut coir and sustainably-grown Canadian peat, this rich, fluffy soil retains moisture like crazy. OMRI-listed Black Gold Earthworm Castings

Every one of our plants get a big dose of these organic worm castings at each stage of growth – from seedling to transplant. The result is healthy, disease- and pest-resistant plants; Two Dog Organic Nursery was awarded a completely clean bill of health during the “Disease and Pest Inspection” conducted by the Department of Agriculture (required before entering a Farmers Market.) We feel the credit goes to the worm castings!

Studies have shown them to enhance soil permeability to air and water, reduce watering requirements, and suppress fungal disease and pests (pythium, fusarium, dollar spot, white flies, aphids, etc.) They are completely non-toxic, and odor-free. They will not burn even the most tender plants and will not contaminate ground water in any way.

Bu's Blend Biodynamic Compost

The newest addition to our line up of fabulous "soil food", and our first-ever Biodynamic product!  Malibu Compost describes their Organic Compost like this:  "Our compost repairs your soil's ecosystem, saves water and serves as a source of humus for planting and managing soil health while also emanating energetic life forces to vitalize your vegetables, plants, flowers, lawns, gardens, farms and our earth."  This product contains: Dairy cow manure, straw, vineyard wood chips, and biodynamic concentrations of yarrow, chamomile, valerian, stinging nettle, dandelion, and oak bark. Earth Juice Procoir™ Pure Coco-Coir

This Coco Peat is an outstanding organic growing medium made from the coarse fibers and sponge-like pith material of the coconut husk. The husks are carefully selected, soaked and then shredded to extract the valuable coir fiber. The material is then washed and composted to make this wonderful, earthy-smelling product. Added at a 20% ratio, Coco Peat “fluffs” and aerates the soil for explosive root growth. It has the most fantastic water-holding capabilities! One 11 lb. bale expands to at least 2.5 cubic feet.

Denali Gold Alaskan Humus

Two Dog customers brought this product to our attention earlier this year. Denali Gold Alaskan Humus is used as a soil amendment, top-dressing, compost or as a compost tea catalyst.  It inoculates the soil with a wide spectrum of beneficial bacteria and fungi helping to keep your soil bursting with life. Grow More Dolomite Lime

All veggies, especially tomatoes and peppers, require calcium; without it, we’re inviting the Dreaded Blossom End Rot! This fast acting granular formula, derived from dolomitic limestone, is not dusty and is easy to apply. We use it faithfully, and even add an extra dose to those gigantic heirloom tomato plants!

BLACK GOLD TOMATO AND VEGETABLE FERTILIZER

Your tomato, veggie and herb garden will thrive with this excellent organic, non-burning granular fertilizer. This formula offers both quick and slow releasing components and is derived from dried poultry waste, bone meal, sulfate of potash, blood meal, feather meal, alfalfa meal and kelp meal. The guaranteed analysis is a balanced 4-5-3, meaning it is 4% nitrogen, 5% phosphate and 3% potash. The nitrogen is available in both readily available and slow-release forms, while the phosphate and potash will slowly release over time. We use this organic formulation on our camillias (which were birthday presents to Jo Anne more than 16 years ago!) with great success. It naturally acidifies (reduces the pH) the soil as it provides nutrients for all acid-loving plants including blueberries and hydrangeas — check the box for a complete list. This granular fertilizer is made from bone meal, cottonseed meal, sulfate of potash, feather meal, blood meal and kelp meal. The guaranteed analysis is a balanced 5-5-3, meaning it is 5% nitrogen, 5% phosphate and 3% potash. Use it at the time of planting, and on established plants once they begin to leaf out, and every 8-10 weeks throughout the growing season.
