Spring is right around the corner, and gardeners everywhere are dreaming of amazing Tomatoes...not the hopeless cardboard imposters found in most grocery stores, but fabulous, full-flavored, homegrown Heirlooms with all their quirky names, odd shapes, rainbow of colors, and incredible range of sweet, fruity, spicy, smoky flavors.

As you all know, Alex and I closed the Nursery at the end of 2021, but Spring always seems to call me back! There’s just something about sowing LOTS of seeds at the beginning of the New Year that I can’t seem to “retire” from.

No, we’re not re-opening...but we are throwing the “Two Dog Tomato Party” again this year selling 44 varieties (and pssst…it’s a surprise: we’ll also have Baby Persian Cucumbers!)

We’ll have big tomatoes, little tomatoes, every color and shape possible! Of the 44 varieties, 12 are “NEW” to our 2025 list. We try to cover every color and type, from cherries to beefsteaks, pastes to tomatillos, and each part of the Growing Season! Click on “Tomatoes by Season” to plan for Successive Harvesting!!

The event will be at our home base, as always:

Saturday, March 22nd & Sunday, March 23rd
10am until 4pm
914 S. Cloverdale Ave.
Los Angeles 90036

** Please plan to bring your OWN BOX OR FLAT (start saving your boxes now!)

** Feel free to invite your Friends or fellow Community Gardeners!

** 2-hour Street Parking is available; carpooling is a great idea!

** PLEASE NOTE: WE ACCEPT CASH & VENMO ONLY. (Please don't ask to pay with checks or credit cards. Thanks!)

** As is the Two Dog Tradition, Cookies & Organic Lemonade will be served!

** NO PRE-ORDERING or EARLY SHOPPING (please don't ask 🙏 I don't have the space or the help I used to!)

IMPORTANT UPDATE REGARDING OUR "CERTIFIED ORGANIC" STATUS: I held onto our CCOF Certified status for the first year and a half after we closed, but it became unrealistic and overly expensive to maintain for just a single possible Pop Up per year. It broke my heart, but I had to let it go (seriously, I cried). I tried, unsuccessfully, to "pause" our status, kind of like the DMV allows you to file a "Planned Non-Op" on a vehicle you're not using, but they don't offer such a thing; interestingly, the California Organic Program DID allow me to "suspend" my account.

But the important thing is this: I promise you all, I have in no way changed the way I do production. I'm following the same rules, complying with the same materials requirements, and I'm keeping all the records as I always have. It means that much to me. And IF I wanted to become Certified again, CCOF would audit everything I've been doing in the meanwhile, anyway.

Following are the 2025 selections, which are first grouped by COLOR. Note that many varieties are listed in more than one group; for example, Sweet Million Cherry will be listed in CHERRY as well as in RED, etc.

All other Tomatoes pages have been updated as well. Please have a look at them: TOMATOES BY SEASON will help you plan for a long season with successive harvests, and the QUICK A-Z page will help you search the whole list quickly in alphabetical order in case you’re looking for something specific.

Also, check out the TOMATO TIPS & TERMINOLOGY page, too. It has lots of good information on being successful in your garden. I know it needs an update (we’re not in the Farmers Markets anymore, nor do we sell Soils, etc.), but I simply haven’t had time recently. Just ignore those details, please.

See you soon!!

Marianna's Peace  **  NEW FOR 2025!  **

80 Days. Heirloom.

Named for Marianne Worschech Tibbets (1927-2013), who, as a Czech teen, escaped Russian captors in 1940 by jumping from their moving truck. She was shot in the leg crossing the Czech border but made her way through the Austrian Alps to Vienna, and ultimately to Bavaria. The Red Cross helped her finally reunite with her parents and siblings in 1955. Marianne married an American soldier in 1957 and they raised their children in Washington.

The seeds for this family Heirloom go back to the early 1900s and were sent to Gary Ibsen, founder of Tomatofest.com, by Marianne’s sister; Gary named the variety, known for it’s outstanding flavor and beauty, “Marianna’s Peace” in tribute to her bravery and resilience. Gary feels Marianne would be happy to know that her family’s farming heritage continues on today through her daughter, Dagma Lacey, Gary’s lovely wife and founder of TomatoFest Organic Heirloom Tomato Seeds.

Nice sweet/tart flavors.

NOTE: Unlike tomatoes, tomatillos are not self-pollenizing. You must grow two together to ensure fruit set; if you plan to save seeds, they must be of the same variety.
